Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons of water
- 6 tablespoons of orange juice (can do a splash of apple juice too if you have on hand)
- 5 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1-2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon (i.e. a few dashes)
- 1 orange
- 10 whole cloves
- 1 bottle red wine
- Splashes of brandy (1/2 -1 shot)
Directions
- Step 1
In a saucepan, combine the water, orange juice, sugar, and the cinnamon stick. Bring to a very low boil, reduce heat, and simmer (uncovered).
- Step 2
Cut the orange in half and juice it. Pour the juice into the pot. Push the cloves into the outside of the orange peel, and place the peel in the pot. This is so the cloves are not floating all around by themselves.
Continue simmering for 20 minutes, until it thickens slightly
- Step 3
Pour in the wine, and heat until steaming. Reduce immediately if it starts to simmer or boil. Add extra dashes of cinnamon and brandy to your liking. (brandy is optional) Remove the clove-studded orange halves.
Serve hot in your favorite mug and ENJOY.
This is a real crowd-pleaser.
